All playgrounds have levels of accessibility – some more than others. Here are the most wheelchair accessible playgrounds in Denver.
Carpenter Park (3498 East 112th Avenue, Thornton, CO)
Carpenter Park opened in 2013, and is located directly behind the Carpenter Recreation Center at the corner of 112th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
Located in Thornton, Carpenter Park has the following:
- Access to most levels of the castle
- Sway Fun activity
- Multiple reserved parking spots
- Van-accessible parking spots with aisles
- Accessible (and standard) porta-potties
- Paved trails
- Covered picnic tables and seating
- Small spray park
- Skate park
Carmody Park (2200 South Kipling Street, Lakewood, CO)
This new playground in Lakewood was designed to be universally accessible. There is a slide built into a hill where you can get to the top using a wheelchair. The playground also has music and sand areas for sensory play.
Located in Lakewood, Carmody Park has the following:
- Access to the top of the castle
- Sway Fun activity
- Multiple reserved parking spots
- Van-accessible parking spots with aisles
- Permanent accessible (and standard) bathroom facilities

Sensory Park (7577 West 103rd Avenue, Westminster, CO)
The park features access to all levels of the playground equipment. There are instruments for kids to play, as well as a water feature.
Located in Westminster, Sensory Park has the following:

- Multiple reserved parking spots
- One van-accessible parking spot with aisle
- No bathroom facilities
- Small water feature (it was filled with wood chips when we were there)
- Covered picnic tables and seating
Red-tailed Hawk Park (23701 E Hinsdale Way, Aurora, CO)
Inspired by a 9-year-old boy named Ashaun who uses a wheelchair, Red-tailed Park is a fully inclusive park with purposeful play equipment so every child should be able to enjoy.
Located in Southeast Aurora, Red-tailed Hawk Park has the following:
- Access to the top of the castle
- Multiple reserved parking spots
- Several van-accessible parking spots with aisles
- Permanent accessible (and standard) bathroom facilities
- Spray park water feature
- Wheelchair swing
- Horseshoe pits (aisles are paved)
- Zipline feature from 2-5-year-olds
- Spin feature that can handle a wheelchair
- Covered picnic tables and seating
Veterans Memorial Park (6015 Forest Dr, Commerce City, CO)
This park, newly renovated, celebrated its grand reopening earlier this year. The 2.6-acre park site includes an all-inclusive playground, picnic shelters and permanent restroom facilities that are ADA accessible.
Located in Commerce City, Veterans Memorial Park has the following:
- Access to the top of the castle
- Multiple reserved parking spots
- Several van-accessible parking spots with aisles
- Permanent accessible (and standard) bathroom facilities
- Spin feature that can handle a wheelchair
- Sway Fun activity
- Covered picnic tables and seating
E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park (11701 Community Center Dr, Northglenn, CO)
E.B. Rains park in Westminster This Northglenn park includes a sensory playground for individuals and families of all ages and abilities. The playground also has musical instruments to play and a water area.
Located in Northglenn, E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park has the following:
- Multiple accessible parking spaces between west and east parking lots
- Van-accessible parking spots with aisles
- Permanent accessible port-a-potty in east parking lot
- Paved fishing platform
- Somewhat wheelchair accessible playground
- Fully wheelchair accessible skate park (use at your own risk)

- Braille
I did some more research and there are at least a few more wheelchair accessible playgrounds in Denver that I need to check out. I will update this article with the new information.
