The Tatarian is inspired by Berkeley’s endearing history. Just before the turn of the century, each new land owner who bought property in the neighborhood would receive a shade tree as a gift from the city. In the years to follow, the Maple tree (specifically the Tatarian variety) was the one that thrived and grew the deepest roots on Berkeley soil, despite not even being native to the state of Colorado.
